When we say bad career moves, Daniel Ricciardo tops the list as his chief competitor, Fernando Alonso, has finally landed with a decent team. Ricciardo left Red Bull when he was at his peak, probably because he was being constantly pushed aside to make way for the Milton Keynes prodigy, Max Verstappen. As Dany Ric warms the bench for the 2023 campaign, he dreams of returning with a top team. However, the fans have been quick enough to rain on his egoistic parade.
McLaren ousted Ricciardo a few months back in favor of a younger Australian, as the Honey Badger just couldn’t become one with the car. While that has been reiterated a million times, what is new is the fact that the same fans who were angered by his firing have now called him out and brought him back to reality after the Australian came out to declare his 2024 intentions which was deemed unrealistic by fans.
As quoted by The Athletic, Ricciardo said, “I want to be back with a top team, and a team where I have that confidence back and my mojo. To go back and to maybe put myself in any seat that’s fighting at best for like a top 10, I don’t think it’s going to bring the best out of me.”

He further stated, “I see myself, at least in my head, wanting to be back on the grid. But there’s still some terms and conditions, so to speak. It’s not at all costs. Having the chance to step back and just review everything from afar, and with the luxury of time as well, not to be forced to make a decision or rush anything, I feel that if I’m to get back on the grid, I honestly believe I’ll be a better version of myself. A more mature, experienced, complete version.”
But can the dream which seems far from reality manifest itself? The fans say no to the hopeful, smiling beast.
“Finished,” says Daniel Ricciardo’s report card as fans blame him for absurd career moves
All the wrong moves of jumping ships from RB to Renault to McLaren culminated to a point where the 8x GP winner had to sit a season out, with still no possibility of a return regardless of what he says. And to add to the low energy of the situation, F1 Twitter has been rapid to call out the Australian. Take a look at some of the comments below:
I think Daniel really overestimates his capabilities & options here, he honestly doesn’t have the luxury to be so picky about which team to go to. He can’t get into any of the 5 teams that are capable of fighting for top 10 consistently. He must lose the ego & accept his reality

Bro has made so many bad decisions that becoming a reserve driver at redbull seems like the most sane one

Hahaha
No top team wants you bro.
You left Redbull to go to Renault and ditched them for McLaren.
It's all your own doing!— Geralt (@Geralt31065966) March 30, 2023
Guy ran from redbull and chased the bag because he didn't want to be number 2 driver and ended up being that at another team anyway. To say he wasn't giving good performances because he was in a midfield car is a crap excuse.

Guys is average at best. Not even in the top 10 on the current grid. Finished.

In other words, he knows he needs a good to car to be any good 🤷♂️ Never adapted and got comfortable anywhere once he left Red Bull
