Max Verstappen and arch-rival Lewis Hamilton have been at loggerheads since their epic battle in the 2021 season. Verstappen is used to being the aggressor and Monza, 2021, when Lewis Hamilton got Verstappen’s tire marks tattooed on his helmet is a testament to this. But when it came to being on the receiving end, Verstappen didn’t back down after suffering damage in a close call with George Russell. And now, an F1 pundit has advised Verstappen to take a leaf out of Hamilton’s book.
Verstappen, who is known for his never-back-down aggressive driving style, was called out for the same. Anthony Davidson of Sky believes that the double world champion should in fact learn to be smart about such moves as Lewis once was. Davidson states that throwing the car in that situation wasn’t wise, as being in the blazing Red Bull would have given him more chances.
Davidson told Sky Sports as quoted by F1 Maximaal. “When he had to fight against the superior Mercedes car, he took all the risks. He threw the car on the inside, as that was his only chance to win the race. He still seems to do that.'”

Davidson further added, “He can still get better at that and that’s quite frightening for the competition because he’s already so good. He has to learn from this and look at Lewis (Hamilton, ed.). He sometimes gave up his position because he knew he had the car to win back this place. He needs to see the bigger picture.”
And while he has been asked to learn a thing or two from Lewis, an ex-champion has come forward to remind Verstappen of how he has made similar moves that have now pissed him.
Ex-F1 champ points at Max Verstappen’s George Russell-like move on Lewis Hamilton
A lap 26 collision in the Italian GP at Monza saw Verstappen parked on top of Hamilton’s car. How that came about can be summarized as Verstappen going for the gap, which in his words wasn’t being left open by Lewis Hamilton. And ex-champion Damon Hill has picked just the incident to remind Max that he has been doing the same thing as George Russell in the past.

Damon Hill stated, “If you cast your mind back to Monza [2021] with Lewis Hamilton, he just didn’t back out of the corner. He’s done it himself, he’s a hard racer–they’re both hard racers, George and Max, and this is what happens when you get a rock and a hard place together. It looks like you have to have that kind of default ‘I’m in the right and everyone else is out of step’ [mentality]”
