One of the biggest contributions to Red Bull’s success since the 2021 season is that of their CTO Adrian Newey. Not just this ongoing purple patch, but also the one Sebastian Vettel enjoyed between 2010 to 2013. The aerodynamics genius joined the Austrian team from McLaren in 2006 and since then, has gone through all the ups and downs with the team. Lately, speculations have picked up over his possible move to rival Mercedes. Much to the relief of Max Verstappen fans, team boss Christian Horner put those rumors to rest recently.

During the season opener race weekend in Bahrain, Newey stood in front of Mercedes’ new car, the W14, and took a long hard look at it. Cameras caught him in action and the sight was enough for former F1 champion Damon Hill to rule that it was a project that the Red Bull CTO was interested in working on. Since then, the rumor market is flooded with speculations over the future of the engineer extraordinaire.

F1 is currently going through a 4-week break before the regular action resumes in Azerbaijan later this month. This is the time when F1 personalities are giving long-form interviews. Horner recently appeared for one with Sky Sports, where he addressed the rumors about Newey’s future.

“His heart is still very much in Formula 1 and his commitment to the team is, it’s not something…,” he said. “We don’t talk about contracts or longevity of contracts, but he’ll be here for many years to come. There’s always going to be rumors in this paddock, that’s Formula 1.”

RB fans breathed a sigh of relief as Christian’s comments categorically put an end to any scope for doubts. Take a look at some reactions from Twitter.
