Former F1 champ Nelson Piquet revved up his engine too hard last year and spun out of control! He is currently facing a conviction for using unacceptable, racist slurs to describe the legendary Lewis Hamilton, who has proven time and again that he is the epitome of power on the track. In addition to the conviction, Piquet, who is also the father of Max Verstappen’s girlfriend, is believed to have been fined a whopping $2 million by the Brazilian authorities!
Last November, Piquet’s comments made headlines, but instead of celebrating the talent of the seven-time champ, he chose to hurl hurtful and derogatory words. He, as quoted by the Express, “The ‘n*******’ was [more focused on] giving a** at that time. He was kinda bad.” While he tried to backpedal, claiming translation errors and denying any ill intent, the damage had already been done. The battle not only continued in court but also on Twitter, where the Mercedes driver, also an honorary Brazilian citizen, dropped a sly remark on Piquet. The whole episode had most of the people backing Lewis, but a section defended Piquet using the same arguments as himself.

The massive fine has been requested by the Brazilian Public Prosecutor’s Office, which seeks the distribution of funds among several social organizations; however, the action remains pending in the 20th Civil Court of Brasilia. The news certainly has the LH army and other fans celebrating, as it would be a major conviction and help increase the accountability of actions on a bigger level.
Fans appeal to not mess with Lewis Hamilton
The whole issue erupted when the clip of the former champions started to make rounds on social media. It also showed the power of Lewis Hamilton, who was targeted for the same reasons that he has been fighting for so long. Fans came out in his support and filed the case in Brazil as many institutions came together and fought the case against Piquet. And the verdict, not too far, would be a massive win.

It’s a good thing that Hamilton is a true champion who rises above such hate and continues to inspire us all with his talent and grace. He was thanked by the Brazilian fans for being so loving towards their nation.
Lewis became a national treasure because of his humanity, being a force for good and, as a result, became unintentionally the spokesperson for 🇧🇷

It seems like the court has taken notice of Lewis’s words: “I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”
