It’s T-minus one week to the Las Vegas GP. That’s one week until the first edition of the most anticipated race of the season. That’s one week until Formula 1’s third visit to Sin City. Third visit? Yes, the 2023 season wouldn’t be the first time F1 races around the streets of Las Vegas. Well, technically, it will be because the first two editions—in 1981 and 1982—took place in the parking lot of Caesars Palace. Needless to say, they weren’t too successful and F1 pulled out. But now, it’s taking a few gambles on the city once again, and its latest one seems to have worked out in its favor!
The Las Vegas GP will be a weekend of firsts for many. For every driver on the grid, it’ll be the first time they’ll race in the city. For the first time, a weekend will run from Thursday to Saturday. And for the first time, F1 is promoting a race on its own. Usually, a promoter invests in a race and brings in sponsors. Considering Liberty Media wants to make it a spectacle that everyone will remember, it’s taken matters into its own hands. And it’s pulling out all the stops. But as extravagant as its efforts have been, the simplest of things made fans excited for the race.

Sebastian Vettel brought together all teams and drivers in Suzuka to build 'bee hotels' on the inside of Turn 2 as part of his biodiversity project 🥰

Remember the Bee Hotel Sebastian Vettel built in Sukuza at Turn 2 this season? Apart from the obvious wooden fixtures in the grass, what else demarcated the Bee Hotel? The yellow and black curbs at Turn 2—the colors of bees. The Las Vegas GP has done something quite similar, and it’s all about paying tribute to Sin City, or more specifically, the gambling capital of the world!

When Vegas was introduced into the calendar and the track layout became public, no one was too excited about the race. With its long straights and a handful of corners, nothing really got anyone pumped up about the race. But this one tiny detail that F1 introduced has got everyone’s attention on Reddit.
The Las Vegas GP curbs are ‘redeeming’ the race
What small yet revolutionary detail do the Las Vegas GP curbs have? If there’s one thing Vegas is famous for, it’s its casinos. What’s the most popular thing about casinos? The gambling and the all-important stacks of 52 cards. Keeping the usual red and white curbs, the Las Vegas GP organizers have painted hearts and diamonds on the red ones, and spades and clubs on the white ones. How cool is that? Fans sure think it is.

“Ok, this is insanely cool. The race might be dog but the event itself actually looks promising from a TV perspective” With temperatures set to drop below 10C, the race might not be all that boring. But if it is, you’re right! At least we’ll have these cool curbs to look at.
What better way to give drivers a feel of Vegas even when they’re on track and not in casinos (if at all they are)? The curbs are “Very Vegas!”
Can Vegas be cute? Because that’s what one fan called it. “Ok that’s kinda cute” Well, we agree too, and so does another user. “Yeah, shout out to the dude who came up with that idea.”
Amidst all the “This is pretty awesome ngl” and the “Admittedly… this is cool,” one user embraced Sin City’s environment and said, “And the betting begins on next year’s version having ads on each one.” We bet you’re right!

Remember when Fernando Alonso and Taylor Swift’s dating rumors started? Commentator David Croft couldn’t help but slip in a few of her songs in the commentary. Could something like that happen once again in Vegas, just with betting puns? “Crofty has probably been saving up so many puns for Vegas. He’s gonna thrive.”
The Vegas casinos, F1’s glitz and glamour—they make for the perfect combination for a heist, don’t you think? “I gotta say this would be an awesome excuse for another unnecessary sequel to OCEANS 11.” Who wouldn’t love to watch George Clooney and Brad Pitt (seeing as he’s already making an F1 movie) shoot another one at the Las Vegas GP?
The curbs really changed everyone’s perspective about the upcoming race weekend, didn’t it? “Yesterday I said there was nothing redeeming about this race. Today, I change my mind. I do like these curbs. That’s it. Only the curbs.”
