The championship might not be over for the title contenders, considering Mercedes is seeking the appeal route, but it is very much done for the rest of the grid. Alpine driver Fernando Alonso, who finished the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in P8, was cheerful on his radio to the team.

The Spaniard, who returned to the sport after a hiatus of two years impressed everyone with his driving. Although he took some time to get back in form, he has delivered consistently since Hungary. He also got his first podium since the 2014 season, when he finished P3 in Qatar.

Alonso was happy after the end of the race and mentioned that big things will come to them in the future.
