If there’s a face to an ‘ideal’ Formula 1 driver, it should probably be Max Verstappen. He can spin, lose positions, and still go on to win the race with ease. He’s so talented and rose to dominance so fast that the question ‘Would he win a championship’ quickly turned into ‘How many would he win?’ And now, after a show of dominance in Miami GP, the 2x champ only seems to be moving closer to his third World championship title.
Although Sergio Perez threatened Verstappen’s third title bid with his back-to-back Grand Prix victories, the results from Miami painted a different picture. Even after starting ninth on the grid, Verstappen stormed through the field and defeated pole-sitter Perez; thereby crushing his dreams to top the Championship. Verstappen’s masterful performance in Miami proved that there’s no match for Verstappen’s electric speed, even in the same machinery. Then what would it take to challenge Max Verstappen?
Speaking about the same on the Formula for Success podcast, the former Red Bull driver David Coulthard said, “I think Formula 1 is in a great position because there are a lot of strong drivers in their twenties. You have Lando and George. You have Charles and Max and then you have the older drivers with Fernando and Lewis. We have a generation of drivers who will battle it out over the next ten years.”

“Each of these drivers has a chance to challenge Max, but to challenge Max on the same team will require a supernatural feat. He is a machine, he is perfectly prepared to be on the track. He’s strong-willed and incredibly capable.”
Adding to Coulthard’s words, Eddie Jordan said: “He’s[Max Verstappen] light years ahead of the rest.”
One day Max Verstappen might be challenged. However, at the moment, it doesn’t seem like a possibility and it is threatening the competition and thrill of the sport.
Lewis Hamilton warns of Red Bull’s dominance for ‘years’ if better regulations are not adapted
Red Bull and Max Verstappen broke records in 2022, and it appears that they’re on their way to doing it again in 2023. The Milton Keynes outfit has won all five races, with four one-two finishes in the season so far. By now, Red Bull already has a 122-point advantage over their nearest competitor, and given their car performance is still streets ahead, it is a gap that is likely to increase.
Although Mercedes hoped to be back fighting for wins and F1 titles this year, their regression period didn’t end and their performance gap to the reigning champions only looks greater than before. If this continues, Lewis Hamilton fears that Red Bull will dominate the F1 world for “years.”

Given how uncompetitive the title race is again this year, Hamilton said, “All I can say is that we’re working as hard as we can to close up and get back and give them more of a fight. It’s just unfortunate that we still see the same sort of gaps between the teams.”
And he warned that, if his team doesn’t make considerable progress, it might be a while before Mercedes can properly challenge Red Bull: “I don’t know what the solution is for the future, but we are going to have to adapt to these regulations. Otherwise, it could be the same as it is now for years.”
