Will Liam Lawson enter the Red Bull quad before the speculated time? As per the recent developments, this could be a possibility. Especially with Sergio Perez’s dip in performance, Liam Lawson’s future in F1 slowly turns brighter. With potential chances of moving in with VCARB or Red Bull, the young Kiwi is on the roll! But what fuelled these rumors? Team principal Christian Horner’s recent interview has activated the sharp instincts of fans and gossipers alike.
Red Bull CEO Christian Horner‘s conversation with Sky Sports F1 has sparked fan speculation about Sergio Perez’s future. Horner emphasized the need for Perez to perform better, stating, “He [Sergio Perez] knows he’s being measured against the very best and we need him up there supporting Max because there’s two McLarens now, there’s two Ferraris, and there’s two Mercedes, We need there to be desperately two Red Bulls.” This suggests Perez must improve quickly, or risk being replaced by someone like Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo.
Amid Perez’s struggles, the timing of his contract renewal raised eyebrows, including Martin Brundle’s. Brundle questioned Christian Horner about the early-season decision. Horner responded: “It made absolute sense to sign Checo at that point in time. But this is a business in which there are pressures to deliver.” He added, “We thought the contract would help. I think it’s something that Checo is working very hard on, and he knows this is a sport where there’s no hiding.” Despite Perez’s contract for 2025 and 2026, Red Bull can replace him if he doesn’t meet performance targets.

Liam Lawson will drive the 2024 Red Bull car in Silverstone next week
As speculations intensify about Sergio Perez‘s future with Red Bull, Liam Lawson has been asked to test the RB20 next week. This move aims to assess the young driver’s capabilities in preparation for a possible mid-season or next-season replacement of Perez. Lawson will be driving the F1 car in Silverstone, as a part of Red Bull’s filming day. While some might look at this as strategic marketing, Red Bull surely has some plans up their sleeves. Lawson will have ample opportunity to showcase his potential with 200km of running, especially at the same track where the team will race this weekend.
This time last year, Red Bull trialed with Daniel Ricciardo. His impressive potential got him into the AlphaTauri (now VCARB) seat. But since his full-fledged return to F1, Ricciardo hasn’t been impressive at all. This gave rise to the possibility of Lawson filling in for Ricciardo in case the situation demands. Liam’s performance last year saw him as a potential candidate for Red Bull’s future. But with Ricciardo’s improved trajectory, he could continue in his seat at VCARB. Meanwhile, Ricciardo’s possibilities of having the Red Bull seat have reignited all over again.
