Recall how Max Verstappen flew past Lewis Hamilton during the Hungarian GP start. Hamilton and Verstappen’s rivalry hasn’t delivered on the competition that was seen back in 2021. Most of it is due to Red Bull’s dominance and Mercedes’ inability to keep up with them. Nonetheless, a former Ferrari manager now picks the clear winner between Hamilton and Verstappen as he states 1 reason for the same. What is the reason?
As an F1 fan, one can only wonder what it would’ve been like if Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were on the same team competing for the title. It is believed that if two competitors have equal machinery, then only the greatest amongst them can be differentiated and will be the one coming out on top. Former Ferrari manager Peter Windsor was presented with the same situation.
Peter Windsor revealed how F1 fans would always fantasize about the top drivers driving for the other top teams and what the outcome would be of the same. He explained how guys like Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton would be great in a top team like Red Bull. However, he added that they won’t be able to beat Max Verstappen who is in a league of his own at the moment.

Explaining the reason for Max Verstappen’s prowess over Hamilton, Peter Windsor in his YouTube video said “Lewis and Charles would be really really good in a Red Bull out of the box. But they [Lewis or Charles] wouldn’t beat Max in a Red Bull. I don’t believe it because Max is super confident in a way that we very rarely see in any era of Formula 1. He’s in complete harmony with his engineering team led by Adrian Newey. He barely has to speak for them to know exactly what he’s on about. And he’s stretching the limits of human perfection I think.”
Max Verstappen, despite the kind of performances that he’s putting in, seems to be super calm inside the car. We’ve seen it multiple times during the season that the Dutchman would almost lose the car and then joke about it or just laugh it off on the radio. Nonetheless, this dominance of Max Verstappen might lead to Sergio Perez taking a financial hit.

Max Verstappen’s domination lead to a potential financial hit for Sergio Perez
After the first 4 races of the season, Sergio Perez’s championship contention against Max Verstappen has fallen off the ladder. Only the first half of the season has passed and Checo is already 125 points behind Max Verstappen in the standings. A recent revelation advised a possible clause in Checo’s contract that allows Red Bull to reduce his salary in case a large gap is created in the points tally between the teammates.

According to Formulapassion.it, the newspaper De Telegraaf suggests, “Red Bull has provided for a clause to possibly lower Sergio Perez’s compensation if the gap from Max Verstappen in the standings is too large. The distance that must elapse between the two-time world champion and the former Racing Point is just 125 points, the difference that currently divides the two drivers of the Milton Keynes team in the World Drivers’ Championship.” [Translated Via Google]
Although, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has come to Checo’s rescue. Marko shot down these rumors while speaking to Sport1.de, “I don’t know where that comes from. It’s completely out of thin air. The contracts are strictly regulated. There will be no pay cuts.”
