Mercedes had a rollercoaster of a weekend at Monza. Hamilton’s DNF and Bottas’ stunning race to the podium had the Brackley team leave Italy with mixed emotions. However, the team remains as strong as ever, holding on to the top place on the constructor’s board. Hamilton’s best friend and physician explained the effort the team puts in as Mercedes gets ready for the Russian GP.
There is a lot that goes into getting ready for the race weekend as the circus moves cities for each race. This includes moving everything one sees on the paddock and pit lane. Angela Cullen explains, “each garage is custom-designed around the already existing track facilities and is built and then at the end of the weekend deconstructed and sent into the next race.”

Mercedes heads to Sochi
The title tension is at an all-time high. RedBull and Mercedes had almost a poetic weekend in Monza. While both the championship protagonists were out of the race, the second drivers battled it out for the podium position. Sergio Perez crossed the line behind Lando Norris, but was pushed to fifth after a five-second penalty; Bottas stood on the podium.

However, it may be time for more clean racing. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff explained his worries. “Both of them need to leave space for each other, race each other hard but avoid accidents. It was good fun until now, but we have seen halo save Lewis’ life today and Max had this heavy impact in Silverstone and we don’t want to get to a situation where we intervene because someone gets really hurt.”
