Having outdone his teammate, and seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, the F1 world is considering the possibility of Russell rising as a better driver than the Briton- Brazilian in the upcoming season.
F1 commentator, Sascha Roos, shed light on his thoughts about the rising talent. He believes that Lewis will no longer be the only star driver at Mercedes. To begin with, he expressed his surprise. He said, “I didn’t think Russell would score more points than Hamilton.”
He further delved into the nitty-gritty’s of it all. He compared Russell’s journey to Hamilton’s former teammate Nico Rosberg. He said, “He’s motivated. However, there won’t be a bang like that between Hamilton and Russell as there was with Rosberg.”
“At that time, to the outside world in terms of status and sympathy, it was always emphasized that Rosberg and Hamilton were on an equal footing, but internally, Hamilton was preferred in my opinion. When Valtteri Bottas came on Hamilton was the clear number one to the outside. But Russell is not Bottas. Russell is more likely to enjoy Rosberg’s status,” he said, in conclusion.
According to Roos, Mercedes played fair in the last season.

He said, “Then, of course, it also depends on the performance of the car in the first races. In the end it was a clear story for Russell last season and Hamilton bitted towards Mercedes on a few occasions in terms of strategy. I think Mercedes handled it very fairly, including to Russell.”
