“It’s Redemption Day at Interlagos. As the Brazilian Grand Prix goes to Max Verstappen!” As we come to a fan-favorite track in Brazil, Max Verstappen would so love to hear these words, after he missed out on taking victory here about 12 months back. Well, the only thing that has changed since the Dutchman last won at Interlagos in 2019, is the name of the race – the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

With a record set for the most wins in a season, Verstappen will be aiming to extend it further in Sao Paulo. Looking at Red Bull’s past form at the circuit and in 2022, they should seal a dominant victory.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Interlagos race weekend, Verstappen addressed their chances for winning. He said, “I think we have a good chance. The car is quick and I think this track normally should be good for us. I’m excited and, of course, I’ll try to win.”
Red Bull has always done well in Brazil, which has a high-altitude track, about 800m above sea level.
The 2021 race, also called the Grand Prix Sao Paulo was an enthralling affair. We saw several skirmishes between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen amidst a tense title battle. The Mercedes man overcame a 25-place grid penalty to recover and win the Grand Prix, while Max settled for P2.
When asked whether he expects a ‘rematch’ with Hamilton, Max replied, “Not necessarily a rematch. We were just not quick enough last year. I think this year it’s completely different – the car is a lot more competitive. I just see that there’s a really good opportunity to win, so we’ll definitely try that.”
With Hamilton having back-to-back P2 finishes in USA and Mexico, Mercedes look quick post their early season struggles. Even though many say that they might stay winless in 2022, Brazil just might be their final shot at it.
Can Sergio Perez match Max Verstappen with Clouds and Thunder rolling over Interlagos?
While the Brackley outfit might plan a blitzkrieg on Red Bull, the everlasting question persists about Sergio Perez. The Mexican has been brilliant, be it in patches in 2022. He needs to be on Max’s gearbox consistently to ensure they secure the 1-2 in the Driver’s championship.

Sergio pressed on the need to put a good weekend together in Brazil. He said, “For that, I need to keep fighting and stay driven to achieve the best possible result in every race, including this weekend’s Sprint. The Sprint is a chance to score vital points, so it is important we get a good practice session in on Friday morning and qualify well.”
With rain and thunderstorms forecasted for the weekend, Perez’s speed will come under the scanner. Although, both of his race wins this year have come in changeable conditions. So the Mexican fans might keep their fingers crossed.
