At this point, Lewis Hamilton is one beacon of not just Formula 1, but a global sport. With his brand image, the #44 racer often advocates for social causes. He is a staunch supporter of women’s rights and has funded the education of young girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) too. Moreover, he has also voiced support for LGBTQIA+ rights on his social media channels.

While Hamilton might be all for advocacy, the stakeholders at the head of Formula 1 do not side with his views. On January 2023, several reports emerged from media houses worldwide saying that F1 will not allow its drivers to make any “political, religious and personal statements” without permission from next season. Notably, Lewis Hamilton‘s actions reflecting his pro-LGBTQIA+ stance fall under this rule too.

However, the FIA’s rules do not seem to affect the soon-to-be Ferrari racer. The month of June is special for all LGBTQIA+ supporters because it is Pride Month. And in support of all of them, Lewis Hamilton came out in Barcelona for the Spanish GP sporting a beautiful pride-themed flag.

Lewis Hamilton captures the essence of “love” with his Spanish GP helmet

As a racer, Lewis Hamilton has already won hearts for his achievements on the track. But off of it, he has also stolen hearts for being a passionate humanitarian and a fearless supporter of human rights. Thus, he has paid no attention to the FIA’s attempt at putting down the axe on drivers making statements like when Hamilton, Vettel, and others took a knee for supporting ‘Black Lives Matter’ at the British GP 2020.

Lewis Hamilton’s helmet for the Spanish Grand Prix shows a quote to reflect his thoughts on the LGBTQIA+ community. It says, “Love is love”. Thus, the Briton has managed to capture the true essence of love by sharing with the world how everyone should be accepting of Pride Month.

This is not Lewis Hamilton’s first gesture for the LGBTQIA+ community in a Formula 1 race. At the Miami GP last year, he wore a pride flag on his helmet even though the state has installed the “Say No Gay” education policy.
