Scuderia Ferrari needs a win, and it needs it now. Ferrari might be the oldest and most successful F1 team in history, but its recent spell of disappointing results is getting to the Tifosi. The last time the Italian team saw the face of the F1 Constructors’ Championship, was in 2008. And the last time a driver from the Maranello outfit clinched the World Drivers’ Championship title, it was Kimi Raïkkonen‘s victory in 2008. Since then, Ferrari has recruited racers like the 4-time F1 title-holder Sebastian Vettel, but even the German could not become successful with the Italian team.
Now, Ferrari has announced it has roped in yet another big name in the Formula 1 world: Lewis Hamilton. The 7-time World Champion will take Carlos Sainz’s place at the Maranello outfit in the upcoming 2025 season. This has led to a big question that is currently on everyone’s mind in F1 town: does bringing in Hamilton mean that Ferrari will automatically become successful in their fights against rival teams like Mercedes and Red Bull? Well, French journalist Leo Turrini picked up this exact question in his latest analysis of all that has been going on with Ferrari in recent times.
Ferrari had started off the 2024 season on a strong foot, and its golden boy, Charles Leclerc, even secured the second spot on the World Championship table. However, with time, teams like McLaren and Mercedes turned out to have improved their cars by leaps and bounds. Now, while the drivers of those teams are regularly chasing after podium places, the Scuderia racers are finding themselves in P5 or P6. At the British GP, Sainz scored fifth place while Leclerc stood 14th, and in Austria, the Spaniard had a third position while his teammate was 11th. Again, Leclerc and Sainz got the P5 and P6 positions respectively.

You cannot win the Constructors’ Cup if your racers get P5 and P6 spots regularly. What Ferrari needs right now is a winner. But at this moment, they seem to only be concerned with welcoming Lewis Hamilton next year. Saying that Ferrari might have made this move to distract Tifosis from focusing on its declining results, Leo Turrini wrote on his blog, “A change from Sainz to Hamilton is understood by everyone, even those who do not agree with it. The game “I know that you know that I” cannot be proposed to fans.”
The F1 expert did not stop there as he also questioned Ferrari’s call for leaving its Technical Director post blank as it is currently pursuing Adrian Newey. Lastly, he predicted a major change might occur in the team with the return of its ex-Team Principal.
F1 pundit claims “waiting for Mister X” might spell downfall for Ferrari

Leo Turrini believes Ferrari can only get out of the points crisis they are currently in by actively working on damage control. However, a key personnel in the team is now missing. The legacy team that has been in Formula 1 since 1950, has not hired a Technical Director. This is because the team’s boss, Frederic Vasseur, is trying to hire Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey by hook or by crook. But until the Briton arrives (if he even agrees to a deal with Ferrari), the position of a Technical Director cannot stay unfulfilled.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Lewis Hamilton really save Ferrari, or is the team doomed regardless of who's driving?

Leo Turrini wrote, “Not having a technical director in the middle of the season, waiting for Mister X, instead fuels legitimate doubts.”, calling Adrian Newey the mysterious ‘Mister X’. Then, the Frenchman also claimed, “Don’t be surprised if in a little while we find ourselves with Mattia Binotto, the ghost of the stage, in the role of CEO of a non-marginal racing team.” Turrini perhaps said this because he feels Mattia Binotto had the Ferrari squad under his control while in Fred Vasseur’s tenure, the team has not seen improvements that the Tifosis hoped for.

No matter what Leo Turrini believes, the upcoming season might be very different for Ferrari, thanks to Fred Vasseur. It is with the Frenchman’s help that the Scuderia could hire Lewis Hamilton. Now, if he manages to convince Adrian Newey too, the Maranello outfit will have the F1 dream team for 2025.
