The 2022 Azerbaijan GP was one of the most painful races in the career of Lewis Hamilton. We mean that in strictly physical terms as the straights of Baku were a porpoising nightmare. Despite that, Hamilton finished the race in fourth, behind his teammate. However, fourth is not where Hamilton wants to be. The Brit wants to win the elusive eighth championship title, and anything short of that is all the same. Sadly, after the dramatic 2021 season, Mercedes and the Brit have been unable to keep up with Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Although, heading into Baku, he is manifesting a result that will spark his comeback with a six worded message.

Red Bull and Verstappen have been running riot since the fourth race of the 2022 season. The Brit soon after locking horns with Verstappen became a bystander to Verstsapen’s second championship charge. This is a hugely unacceptable scenario for Hamilton. which was mainly due to the shortcomings of the W13.

Heading into 2023, there were higher expectations from the W14. However, as we all know now, Mercedes is still struggling. However, Hamilton hasn’t lost hope. In fact, he took to Instagram today to post a six worded message of positivity, hopefully sparking a comeback. The message read, “This is going to be an amazing week! Start it off with the right attitude, speak it into existence. Sending you positivity. Let’s f go!!!”

Hamilton is manifesting this race week to go amazingly. However, the Brit has not had the best of luck in Baku, remember 2021? Although among the collection of forgettable memories from Baku, one turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel admit to the 2017 Baku incident strengthening their relationship

Back in 2017, behind a safety car, Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel kissed Hamilton’s car from the back. The German was adamant Hamilton break-tested him, causing the collision. Vettel reacted poorly and hit Hamilton with his Ferrari right after the incident on the track. However, looking back, the two admitted, the mutual show of respect after the situation cooled down made them better friends.

When asked about the incident, Hamilton said, “It [Vettel] was a bit of a nuisance back then [in 2017].”” To this Vettel replied, “I am actually quite sorry to your answer. But I think Baku for me wasn’t a great moment because what I did wasn’t right.”

Vettel added, “Actually I think from that moment onwards…”, Lewis interrupted Vettel to say, “Our friendship got better.” Vettel affirmed and concluded, “Yea, a lot better. So I don’t want that to not happen. If you see what I mean.”

A healthier relationship between rivals stemming from an ugly scenario is something we’d like to see more often. However, with the current grid, Hamilton is not making any friends. Right now, the Brit wants to get to the task and fast. Let’s see if Baku would be as “amazing” as Hamilton hopes it would be.
