In his Formula 1 career, with seven world titles to his name, Lewis Hamilton has stolen the spotlight to become the driver synonymous with F1. However, during the F1 hiatus, it is his summer body that is breaking the internet, and once again, the Briton puts himself in the limelight.

Each F1 driver trains religiously to cope with the G-forces that they experience when behind the wheel of an F1 car. The 37-year-old posted a video on his Instagram story which arguably makes him look like a 27-year-old. He captioned the video, saying, “Progress takes time, no matter how fast and slow, keep pushing, we got this!”

How Lewis Hamilton trains for F1

The boy from Stevenage has come a long way since racing on the karting track and competing in the junior categories. As the cars underneath him evolved, so did the plant-fueled athlete. In an interview with Men’s Health, Hamilton commented on how his training regiment has evolved over time.

He said, “When I was young, I had a lot of energy and felt I could do anything. I didn’t have a strategy, and I didn’t stretch: I just got in the car and drove to win.”

“But over the years, I’ve experimented with a number of different disciplines, like boxing and muay Thai. These days, I do lots of pilates, focusing on the core – the muscles beneath the muscles.”

All F1 drivers focus majorly on training their neck and core muscles, as they sustain the most loads when driving a car at an average speed of 180 miles an hour. Moreover, it is essential to have a strict cardiovascular training regimen as at such high speeds, it is natural for their heart to beat at 150bpm.

The Mercedes ace shared how he trains for F1. He commented, “I enjoy lifting weights, but I have to make sure that I don’t overdo it. Formula 1 drivers can’t be too heavy: more muscle means more kilos.”

“It’s also disadvantageous to put too much muscle on your shoulders and arms, because you need to have a low centre of gravity in the car.”

“It’s important to have a good cardiovascular system as a driver. Over the course of a two-hour race, you might have an average heartbeat of 160-170bpm. During qualifying, it can go up to 190bpm. That’s why I do a lot of running. Sprints are a part of every workout.”
