Lewis Hamilton's bromance with Miles Chamley-Watson—Is this the best duo in sports right now?

“Traveled down a road and back again; your heart is true, you’re a pal and a confidant.” Lewis Hamilton and Miles Chamley-Watson have given these lyrics a whole new meaning. The two sports icons don’t need any fixed dates to celebrate Friendship Day. It’s always a celebration when they’re together. From supporting each other in their respective arenas to traveling around the world, the Lewis-Miles duo does it all together. We should thank the Met Gala 2016, for bringing Hamilton and Chamley-Watson on the red carpet. Otherwise, how would we have witnessed such an iconic friendship?

From the F1 paddocks to fencing piste, the duo has extended their bromance far and wide. Just a few days ago, Lewis Hamilton was sitting in the audience wearing a special ‘CHAMLEY-WATSON’ support jersey for Miles Chamley-Watson at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, the American fencer didn’t win the Bronze medal in his third stint at the Olympics. Nonetheless, the F1 star was there to boost his morale and embraced him with pride. And just when we thought, this would be the last time (until later) that we’d be seeing them; they surprised us.

You might spot Hamilton and Chamley-Watson anywhere across the globe. The duo has lots in common, love for traveling is one of them. Looks like the best friends have a favorite country they love to visit. Any guesses? It’s Africa. Lewis Hamilton recently went on an emotional and cultural journey to Benin, West Africa. The next update we received was that the Mercedes driver was spotted in Mozambique. Now, it’s believed he was with Miles Chamley-Watson in Senegal. The duo was seen traveling together on a motorcycle and leaving for somewhere in a car. Well, it is unknown whether the fencer was with Lewis from the beginning or whether he joined later.

Whatever it might be, the athletes are enjoying a good break before returning to their daily hustle. A much-needed respite indeed! However, it’s not hard to guess what might be going on inside their heads. Chamlet-Watson would surely want to practice more for the upcoming championships, and Lewis would want to continue his podiums/win streak post-break.

The Ferrari-bound driver is currently the only one in the grid after Max Verstappen to have more than one race this season, which is truly an achievement in itself. Why? Because Red Bull remains a major threat to the teams and Verstappen is still the fastest despite a disappointing RB20. It’s hard to believe that even Lewis Hamilton didn’t hope the Silver Arrows could revive themselves. So, recalling their initial performance is a trip down the rabbit hole of disappointments.

Since the Canadian GP, Mercedes has been a title contender. Before that, there was no guarantee that the team would bounce back. However, Toto Wolff had told before Imola GP that the team would require a few more races before they could see the results. Well, he wasn’t lying. But recently, Hamilton revealed, he “didn’t expect” to be competing with McLaren or Red Bull ahead of the summer break, further adding: “I don’t have a good memory, so I don’t remember back then.” Seems like Hamilton wants to forget about the debacles at the beginning of the season. If you look from his perspective, the setbacks were a huge lesson for Toto and Co.,  retrieving themselves from the disappointment they could’ve turned into.

Now, with all eyes set on the championship and after a good refueling from the summer break, Lewis Hamilton is ready to hit the tracks. During his last dance with Mercedes, every race has been special- a memory that’ll be etched in his heart forever. Moreover, Lewis redeemed himself by shutting out his critics and clarifying that he still has more to deliver and is ‘not over yet.’
