As the 15th round of F1 concluded in the Netherlands, it wasn’t quite the race Lewis Hamilton hoped for. From leading the race at one point, the seven-time world champion had to settle for P4 ultimately. The Mercedes ace was on a rollercoaster of emotions as he opens up about it after the race.
The safety car just before the final few laps brought the race to life when Hamilton was leading Verstappen, a scene many F1 fans would remember. Verstappen’s fresher tires, cars lapping and the duo getting ready for the showdown took everyone to the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, the result was the same this time as well.

Talking about this, in a post-race interview, Hamilton stated, “Going through the race… I really thought we were going to be there, fighting for this win, and then the safety car came out, completely screwed us.”
“I’m sitting there, I’m in the lead but I know no matter how good or bad we start again, I will not be able to hold these guys up, keep them behind,” the Mercedes driver further asserted.
Emotions ran deep for Lewis Hamilton
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took advantage of his fresher tires and Hamilton’s slipstream to leapfrog the Briton. Soon after the Red Bull driver, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc overtook him as well as his teammate George Russell.
The Mercedes driver has become heated up post two back-to-back overtakes and his emotions ran through the team radio. During the post-race interview, the 37-year-old apologized to his team for the behavior, regardless.
