Lewis Hamilton has had one of the longest F1 careers and is still going. Like every other racer, he has faced challenges on the racetrack and off it. The biggest obstacle to his professional success in recent years has been Max Verstappen. The Dutchman hasn’t allowed Hamilton to have one peaceful race weekend since the end of 2021. However, Hamilton feels the challenges posed by Verstappen are nothing in comparison to what he’s faced earlier in his career – his biggest challenge ever.

The Briton made his debut in F1 in 2007 with McLaren. His teammate that year was Fernando Alonso who too had joined the team in 2007. However, Alonso was coming into McLaren fresh off of winning 2 consecutive World Championships. That year, Hamilton created history by being the only rookie ever to get 9 consecutive podiums. But it came with considerable challenges because his teammate, Alonso was in his prime.

The 2 World Champions and former teammates have nothing but respect for each other. They have been constantly competing in 2023 for podium finishes behind Max Verstappen. In 2007, Alonso suffered because of problematic management by McLaren. But his relationship with Hamilton wasn’t tainted. And both of them have expressed interest in being teammates for one last ride.

When asked about his days in McLaren, Alonso said, as quoted by the Daily Mail, It would be nice to end our careers together. I’d love that.” And when Hamilton was presented with this quote, he too sounded welcoming of the idea but was a tad pessimistic. Hamilton said, as quoted by Dazn, “If the stars align yes, I would share a team again with Fernando Alonso, but I don’t think it will happen.”
