Mercedes has found a temporary solution to their magic button situation. Lewis Hamilton made a rare mistake in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix when he went off in Turn 1 in the final laps of the race.

The mistake cost him the race and also the championship lead. Mercedes has found a preventive measure ahead of the French Grand Prix.

According to Lewis, “We haven’t moved it [the button],” Hamilton said. “We’ve just put a shroud around it just to make sure that I can’t accidentally touch it in the future,” said Hamilton.

I don’t even count it as a mistake: Hamilton

According to TheRace, Hamilton had dismissed the reports that suggested that Max Verstappen crashing out of the race contributed to the mistake. He also revealed that he does not feel any pressure in the title fight.

“Max wasn’t in the race at the time so it definitely wasn’t in the pressure from him,” he said. “And I don’t even count it as a mistake.

“I don’t feel any pressure, I feel pretty relaxed and you can’t always be perfect. A mistake is when you drive off the track through missing a braking point or hitting the wall. It was kind of an unforced error,” said Hamilton.

When asked about how the mistake has affected the team and his own mindset, “Unfortunately, it’s bitten us pretty hard but we learn from the experience and move forwards,” said Hamilton.
