Lewis Hamilton is the favorite to win the world championship, going into the last two races. Despite being eight points behind championship rival Max Verstappen, Lewis has had a faster car in the last two races. But the Mercedes driver mentioned the car was a bit of a diva.
The last time a Mercedes car was called a diva was in the 2017 season. Just like in 2021, the Mercedes was a peculiar car and was unpredictable in terms of performance. In 2021, the German team has faced stern competition from Red Bull.
At the start of the season, Mercedes were behind the Red Bull but they have clawed back the advantage in recent races. But Hamilton has called the 2021 car a ‘ monster diva’ because of the difficulty he has faced to get the best from the car.

This one is a monster of a diva: Lewis Hamilton
As reported by BBC, the 2017 Mercedes was generally faster than its rival Ferrari, despite its diva tendencies. But the 2021 Mercedes car cannon afford slip-ups, as the Red Bull is almost equally fast as the German team.
“This one is a monster of a diva. It’s been harder to get the car in the right [set-up] window. And when you don’t get the car in the right window, you just limit your potential.” said the 7-time world champion.
“So I’m just not able to maximize my ability through the set-up not being in the right place, and it’s been very, very hard to get it into the right place,” said Lewis.

Hamilton explains how the 2021 car worked perfectly in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
“In Brazil, I got the car exactly where I wanted. And that was like literally hitting the nail on the head. But we’ve done that maybe once or twice this year. Most of the time, we’re not optimizing it.” said the Mercedes driver.

The 7-time world champion would hope that the 2021 car can overcome its diva tendencies and continue to work perfectly, like the last 2 races. Hamilton needs a fast car to win his 8th world championship; he hopes the car complies with the demands.
