Speaking on the report published by the Hamilton commission, he said, “The benefits of a diverse workplace are well documented and sport is no exception. In fact, it’s even more important, because sport has the power to promote and lead change.

Through this research, we not only identified the barriers that young black people face in entering the sport, but also within the wider Stem [science, technology engineering, and mathematics] education journey.

I am hopeful F1 can be a leading example on how working together, committing to action and not just words, leads to positive change.”

As the Briton set out the Hamilton Commission, Mercedes also took initiatives to improve diversity. The Silver Arrows announced its Accelerate 25 hiring initiative. The plan committed to an overall 25 percent of new employees coming from underrepresented groups by 2025. And according to reports, the percentage rose to 38% in its first year.

How has the Hamilton commission helped Formula 1?

She said, “These are people who greatly value and understand the importance of the talent base that they need to help them achieve [success]. Engineering, as a whole, has a very longstanding diversity deficit, but we know these challenges need to be addressed more quickly than we have been doing.”

Previously, the lack of proper research was a barrier to take proper action. However, now the Hamilton Commission report has provided the base. Aston Martin and AlphaTauri have already committed to several initiatives to help reduce social exclusion and promote equality of opportunity in Formula 1 thanks to the Hamilton Commission.
