Lewis Hamilton has not been enjoying this season’s start in the best way. Though he did get the podium at the Bahrain GP, the car was not the most promising ride. Rumored to be sandbagging, Mercedes has actually been struggling heavily. The new W13 has not proven to be a smooth ride for drivers, George Russell and Hamilton, as they shook violently due to Porpoising.

Lewis Hamilton has faced his worst start in years

The seven-time world champion has considerably been more affected by the car’s slow pace. Hamilton, who usually sits in the top 3, yesterday struggled to even make it to the top 10. Surprisingly, he initially left all of us shocked during the qualifying session. While his pure skill and talent made him breeze through to P6, a team error resulted in his last-minute downfall.

Reports claim that this has been the worst start to Hamilton‘s season in 12 years. While initially, the Silver Arrows dominated the turbo-hybrid era, they would be thankful if they somehow manage to match the pace of Ferrari now. While companion George Russell has done considerably well for his debut, Lewis has struggled a lot more. Russell managed to out-qualify Lewis at the Saudi GP, and later on, kept ahead of Hamilton throughout the race.

Fans fear that this might be the beginning of the end. There was already speculation regarding the retirement of Lewis when he lost the title in 2021. But W13’s failure to prove the best car might challenge Lewis to consider his future. The Briton sits at only 16 points as of now, which is his lowest number with the Mercedes.

The sad part is that, after the 2022 season, the engines will freeze till 2025, and Lewis might not consider going to any other team at this stage of his career. In fact, many have started believing that he will potentially not fight for his eighth title and retire with Mercedes. If these speculations turn out to be true, this might be the last of Sir Hamilton’s driving.
