Lewis Hamilton confirmed he will race in the 2022 season at the Mercedes livery launch. The 7-time world champion was making his first appearance in front of the media since losing the 2021 title. Hamilton will have a new teammate in form of former Williams driver George Russell for the 2022 season.
Russell had previously deputized for Hamilton in Sakhir 2020. The young British driver had been with the German team since his Formula 3 days. But interestingly Hamilton revealed Russell has jelled with the team so well that it doesn’t feel like it is his first season with them.

He fits in here: Lewis Hamilton on George Russell
As reported by Motorsport-total, Russell is familiar with the Mercedes team as he was the reserve driver for a couple of seasons. Hamilton too mentioned that the former Williams driver has fit in like a glove with the German team.
“He fits in here. It fits like a glove. He was already part of our team anyway, so he was always there, anyway. He was always in the simulator. And so far it’s been great,” said Hamilton.
Lewis mentioned he has learned a lot from the time Nico Rosberg was his teammate and revealed that he does not want any quarrel within the team anymore and he hopes the same from Russell.

“It’s one of the reasons why we have more world titles than any other team. So I’m looking forward to working with him. And I hope that our two driving styles are not too different.
“I know the pressures and expectations, and I know the internal feeling of wanting to learn and grow as much as possible. But I have no doubt that he will be a strong challenger. I will focus on doing the best job possible,” said Hamilton.

Fans expect Russell will give a strong challenge to the 7-time world champion in the same car. Hopefully, we’ll see them racing against each other on the track and pushing each other to new limits. But there is a possibility of Mercedes enforcing team orders to avoid any damage to the car or their championship hopes.
