Although Lewis Hamilton is not winning races or world championship titles, he is still one of the hottest F1 drivers on the block. It’s no joke to hold the record that ties with Michael Schumacher of having won seven world championships, and that, along with his personality, will always make him a popular celebrity, especially if you consider the things he does off-track, like producing a movie.

Recently, Hamiton has been working with Brad Pitt to release an unnamed F1 movie by Apple, where the Hollywood star will, of course, take the lead role. Along with Mr. Pitt himself, all the F1 drivers will be a part of the movie, as the movie is based around a fictional team racing on the current grid. However, in a spicy interview hosted by First We Feast, he revealed his pet peeve about filming a racing movie.

What bothers Lewis Hamilton about the upcoming F1 movie?

The interview was unconventional, to say the least, and so were the answers. Both Lewis Hamilton and the host of the interview had to go through a line of hot sauces, with a question after each one. The host started off the interview by saying, “So in recent years you’ve really immersed yourself in the interests that you have outside of racing, including producing a yet-to-be-titled F1 film made by the group that put together Top Gun: Maverick and starring Brad Pitt. Do you have the biggest pet peeve when it comes to racing movies?”

The Mercedes driver seemed ready for the question as he described in detail: “Racing movies, I feel like it’s very hard to capture them. You know, I mean, I’ve done, you know, each year you have to do filming with, like, you’re following a truck that has a camera on the back, so it’s hard to catch the capture the speed. You know, you can’t have a truck filming us at 200 mph, so it’s all kind of faked at a slower speed, and they speed it up. But this is all real-time, real speed.”

Hamilton explained the production process of how the racing scenes are captured and what the team needs to do in post-production to make the cars look faster than they are going. The cars no doubt have the speed to hit 200 mph, but the camera truck cannot do so. Hamilton then jumped into the past of how such scenes were recorded, as he explained, “I think if you go back to, like, Steve McQueen, for example, back then they would have men laying on front of the car with the camera, uh, you know, like, or, you know, they have a big camera on top of the helmet as well. Now we’ve got all this amazing, um, new technology. So I feel like, you know, Joe’s honestly, I think he’s going to blow people away.”

Sadly, all we know about the movie is that it’s in motion without a release date or even the name of the movie announced. That being said, let’s take a look at everything we know about the upcoming F1 movie.

Everything we know about the untitled Formula 1 racing movie

Let’s start with the cast that Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt have put together for the movie. Damson Idris will be playing Joshua Pearce, and Brad Pitt will be taking on the role of Sonny Hayes. Lewis Hamilton, along with the rest of the grid, will be involved in the movie, along with famous actors like Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Joshua Pearce, Sarah Niles, and Samson Kayo. The premise will be the rise to fame of a fictional team called APXGP racing, which hints toward the possibility of the name of the movie being called Apex.

The team has decided on some of the most iconic locations for the shoot, which include Silverstone, Daytona, Las Vegas, and Abu Dhabi. Filming began at the 2023 British Grand Prix, with the camera crew becoming more frequent at the 2024 races. Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a retired F1 driver who left the sport after a major crash in the 1990s. Hayes is recruited by a struggling F1 team owner, played by Javier Bardem, to join APXGP and mentor young driver Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris. The story includes a dramatic return of Hayes to Formula 1 and a subplot where he races a Porsche 911 GTD at Daytona.

The filming included using modified F2 cars to give them the aesthetic of F1, and the filming included on-track camera cars and shots from the pit wall. Joseph Kosinski, known for “Top Gun: Maverick,” is directing the movie, and so far, we know that it will come out in 2025, but no date has been announced as of now.
