Great rivalries have been a part of the Formula 1 narrative over the years. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg’s rivalry is the most remarkable example of teammate rivalry in the past decade. The rivalry involved collisions on track, going against team orders, leading to a breakdown in friendship between the two. Red Bull might have the Hamilton-Rosberg situation up their hands as super talent looks to make a move. Will this lead to a breakdown in Max Verstappen and the talent’s friendship?

Is a new rivalry brewing at Red Bull?

Lando Norris confessed he had talks with Red Bull before signing the latest contract with McLaren. But after a disappointing 2022 and an even worse-looking 2023 up ahead, The Brit might be looking to make a move. According to express.co.uk, Karun Chandhok said, “I tell you who will be thinking about a move to Ferrari or Red Bull though, is young Lando Norris,”

We have already seen how teammate rivalries turn friends into foes. Vettel-Webber, Senna-Prost, Hamilton-Rosberg to name a few. Max Verstappen is very competitive, and we have seen how aggressive he gets on the track. Lando would ideally want to be the No.1 driver to whatever team he decides to move. But this might not be the case at Red Bull.

According to Mirror.co.uk, Tom Coronel Said “Then he will get the same as all those others. Beside Max, your career just ends. It was wise of Norris not to go to Red Bull. It is better to wait for another opportunity. He actually does that now.”

There are many examples of how teammate rivalries grow bigger than the team, where drivers prioritized personal agendas over the team. F1 is a team sport and Red Bull would not want this to happen. If and when they become teammates, whether the rivalry will turn them into bitter foes is yet to be seen.

If Lando’s move to Red Bull materializes, we can be sure to have two of the fastest drivers on the same team. Unlike Max, the Briton has not always been in a competitive car. Nevertheless, he has always outperformed his car. Many, including Mika Hakkinen, believe Norris is on the level of The Dutchman.

According to Planet F1.com, Mika Hakkinen said to Unibet International, “He’s super-talented, no question about it. He’s on the same level as Leclerc, Verstappen and Sainz. He’s on a very high level speed-wise.” and according to talksport.com, Andrea Stella said, “I think Lando has been–if we consider exploiting the package–I think Lando has been maybe the second best driver last season.”
