Seeing Hamilton's vulnerability in Africa, do you respect him more now?

Lewis Hamilton is wasting no time during the summer holidays in Formula 1. Weeks before reporting to Zandvoort for his Mercedes duties, he decided to travel through Africa. Born to an English mother and a father of Caribbean descent, Lewis’ African ethnicity has been something he has spoken proudly of. And to explore his roots, he took a trip to Africa for the first time in 2022. And now, he has returned to his “motherland” as he has planned a few stops in the various countries. First off, he flew to Mozambique in a helicopter, and from there, he went to Morocco.

Lewis Hamilton’s next stop was in West Africa’s Senegal. The country is home to the island of Gorée, which was the largest slave-trading center in Africa between the 15th to 19th centuries. The stark contrast between the grim slave quarters and the marvelous houses of the slave owners shows the cruel reality that Blacks had to survive in at that time. Hamilton visited the place and spoke about his experience as he realized the torture that was meted out to those with whom he shares an ancestral bond. And sharing Lewis’ feelings, British model Naomi Campbell commented on his Instagram post.

As Lewis shared images from his trip to Senegal and decided to educate his followers about the country’s gory past, he wrote, “Next stop is Senegal. This was a very surreal part of the trip. I visited Gorée Island, which was the largest slave-trading site on the African coast for centuries. This was so heavy.” Reflecting on his thoughts, Naomi Campbell, who has Jamaican-Black descent on her mother’s side, shared that she has visited the place too and could recognize Lewis’ feelings as her own. She said, “I got very emotional when I went to Goree Island to the point of no return..had me choked.”

Mentioning Lewis Hamilton, Naomi also wrote, “Wishing [you] an amazing trip in the motherland #africatotheworld.” In reply to this, Hamilton stated to the supermodel, “[I am] so happy I came. We know too well the story and how beautiful this place is.” Thus, it looks like the two British stars are quite close friends. But what happened when Lewis and Naomi actually visited one of the African countries together?

Naomi Campbell accompanied Lewis Hamilton on his first Egyptian trip

Lewis Hamilton is famous for traveling to places during his F1 holidays, but his friend and fellow Briton Naomi Campbell seems to share his knack for international trips too. Thus, when the 2022 season was over, the two flew down to Egypt, one of the most historically rich countries in all of Africa. Sharing photos from his tour, Lewis Hamilton revealed to his fans how he explored the Pyramids there. But the main point of his trip was to attend a gorgeous Dior fashion show where Campbell was a guest as well.

Lewis Hamilton captioned his post on his trip with, “First time in Egypt!! I’ve wanted to come here for the longest time, and I’ve been wanting to see more of Africa after my trip this summer. Got to do both in one trip. Thank you @mrkimjones and the @dior team for inviting me along, these two beautiful days in Cairo were incredible.” Well, it looks like Lewis Hamilton is off on a great trip during the current F1 summer holidays. Perhaps, reconnecting with his roots will help him return to the grid in a new, invincible form.
