The world of Formula 1 is filled with talented drivers, but there are some who rise above the rest to become legends. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are two such legends, each with a unique style of driving and a long list of accomplishments. The two have won the drivers’ championship seven times each, the most of any driver, making them one of the strongest contenders in the GOAT debate of Formula 1.
It’s no surprise that fans often debate who would come out on top if these two racing titans were to go head-to-head. But what would happen if they were both driving the same car? Well, one former Formula One team owner has weighed in on the debate and offered his insights. Eddie Jordan, a man who has been in the motorsport world for decades and has seen it all, believes that he knows who would win.
The Irish businessman and owner of the Jordan team were asked, “Peak Hamilton and Schumacher are driving the same car. Who wins?” To which he, as quoted by OLBG, answered, “Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher were from different eras in their peak. I’d hate to see them battle because it would be fireworks. Schumacher would stick his elbows out more than Hamilton, but Hamilton has that extra piece of control. If it was over six races then I’d say it would be 3-3. I’ll stick my neck out and say that Hamilton just about edges Schumacher if they were both driving in the same car.”

Undoubtedly, they are one of the greatest in the sport, but in terms of ability, many fans also include the likes of Fernando Alonso and Ayrton Senna, despite the two winnings fewer championships than these two. Who is your pick?

The rivalry between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen is possibly one of the most heated ones in the modern era of the sport. Though it may have cooled down over the last year, the ability of the two drivers is still ranked highly. Thus, sprouting from this is another question: who, among the two, along with Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso, would win if all were in equal cars?
To this, Eddie Jordan said, “At the moment, I’d say that Max Verstappen would still win if Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Fernando Alonso were in equal machinery… I’d then say Hamilton would come second place in an equal car, with Alonso and Leclerc battling for third.”

This answer must be considered in the context that Jordan compares their current skills, not their primes. Max Verstappen is certainly flying high in his prime, whereas Charles Leclerc needs the drive to bring the best out of him. But a prime Alonso and prime Hamilton would have been tough to beat for the two young hotshots and would have sparked another debate for sure.
