Mercedes’ season got off to a bad start as porpoising issues kept the W13 from showing its full potential. After securing his first podium in Bahrain, the 7-time world champion had to wait for seven races to pop open the champagne again in Canada. While their recent run of form brings hope of winning a race, not everyone shares the same opinion.
Former F1 Driver Jean Alesi has squashed any chances of the Brackley-based constructors to beat their rivals to win a Formula One race this year. The former French driver objects that compromises have no place in F1.
“You can make a compromise, but a compromise in Formula 1 doesn’t work, you know. I don’t really believe they are able to be a winning team, winning Grands Prix, before the end of the championship under normal circumstances.”

The former Ferrari driver thinks Mercedes’ W13 car was born with problems, upgrades are just a temporary solution, and that they won’t be able to fix the car. Alesi said, “By experience, when a car is born with problems, you’re not able to fix it.”

The Mercedes driver was left disappointed after trying an experimental floor. Lewis said, “Pretty much like every Friday for us, trying lots of different things, an experimental floor on my side which didn’t work”

Mercedes would look to improve the car quickly as the races come by quickly. Hamilton, who took his first ever pole of his career in Montreal, said, “It’s not the Montreal that I know, that I’m used to and that I’ve experienced in my career,”

As Mercedes secure back-to-back podium finishes for the first time this season, they will be looking to improve their car further and challenge Red Bull and Ferrari for race wins before the season ends.
It will be interesting to see how the Silver Arrows come back from the summer break. Whether they will secure their first win or not, only time will tell.
