When it comes to becoming a Formula 1 Racer, fame is an inescapable by-product. And with fame comes significant influence and responsibility. Today, each Formula 1 racer has millions of followers on social media and while some use it only for keeping social, Lewis Hamilton takes things a step ahead.

Lewis Hamilton knows how influential he is and he is not scared to exercise it. Known for his extracurricular activism, he has always pushed for inclusivity and diversity. There have also been times when he has stood up for social justice and with the ongoing war in Palestine, he took it upon himself to speak up.

Recently, Lewis Hamilton showed his support for the country of Palestine, which is at war with Israel. Both countries want the Palestinian land with the Israeli Jews trying to take over. The conflict traces back to the early 20th century when Jews sought to establish a homeland in a territory then largely inhabited by Arabs. This led to resistance from the Arab population.

The conflict has continued for years and now involves various actors, including the Israeli government, the Palestinian Authority, and militant groups like Hamas. Recent escalations, like the 2023 conflict with Hamas, have caused significant casualties and instability. The violence continues during the month of Ramadan, which is something many people in those countries follow.

Knowing that the situation was bad, Lewis Hamilton took it upon himself to speak out and give some support to the people suffering during the religious month. Hamilton put out an Instagram story stating, “Sending my love and support to all the people in Palestine who are spending this holy time facing danger, loss and heartbreak. In a month that is sacred to so many in the region, we must keep calling for a permanent ceasefire and return of hostages so that families can be together and be free from the constant threat of destruction and violence. Ceasefire now.

While this is a powerful message from the 7 time world champion, this is not the first time he has voiced his thoughts on the Palestine war and definitely not the first time he has hoped for a ceasefire.

The first time Lewis Hamilton spoke about Palestine

Lewis Hamilton expressed feeling helpless about the situation in Gaza when he spoke to Arab News at Yas Marina Circuit on November 23, 2023. Saying, “It’s difficult to wake up each day knowing there are thousands of kids dying and there’s nothing you can do about it,” he makes it clear that he is heartbroken by the war.

Hamilton mentioned the challenge of compartmentalizing his feelings about the atrocities in Gaza while trying to focus on his job as an F1 driver. Despite being in a bubble of positivity during the racing season, he found it hard to ignore the suffering happening elsewhere in the world.

He also said, “It’s massively disappointing to see how countries and governments are handling it and just to think where we are in 2023. With everything through history, it doesn’t look like we’ve learned anything.” So it’s clear that Lewis Hamilton supports Palestine and prays for an end to the terrors the country is going through.
