Kimi Raikkonen retiring from Formula One was inevitable, and most many fans saw it coming. Lewis Hamilton is no different, and he isn’t shocked to see the Alfa Romeo driver leave the sport.
The seven-time world champion also revealed that he was a Kimi fan growing up, and always chose the Finn’s car when he played a racing game. He also looks up to Raikkonen and his desire to race, and admits that the Iceman will be sorely missed once he leaves.

It was long been rumored that the Alfa Romeo driver would leave the sport at the end of the season. And just recently those rumors turned out to be true. As such, for the Mercedes driver, he wasn’t shocked about the announcement.
Speaking at the press conference, Hamilton said, “I am not surprised.”
He also looked back on his childhood, remembering how he used to support Kimi and drive his car in the game. Lewis said, “I just admire his will to continue racing. He will be missed. I remember before I got to F1 being a huge fan of Kimi’s – when I played racing games, I’d always be Kimi’s car.”

With this being his last season on the grid, the Iceman would hope to end his career on a high. As it stands, Raikkonen has only been able to score 2 points this season for the Swiss team.
After having a disappointing race at Spa last weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix, the Finn would hope to bounce back at Zandvoort for the Dutch GP this weekend.
