Formula 1 is a temple of speed and ruled by exceptional and faultless driving at speed we can’t even fathom. Although like most sports, even Formula 1 drivers require a bit of luck and good wishes from time to time. Some drivers have their own superstitions and some follow a routine or carry around a good luck charm. However, until recently the track in Imola used to have a good luck charm walking around the track appearing out of thin air and gracing some with its presence. Sadly though the Imola lucky charm that blessed Lewis Hamilton back in 2021 has passed away.

Back in 2021, in the intense championship battle, Hamilton managed to beat his arch-rival in qualifying after his lucky charm blessed him. However, he failed to get the better of Max Verstappen in the Emilia Romagna GP race on Sunday. Little margins were deciding race winners between the evenly matched rivals. So when the circus returned to Imola in 2021, Hamilton took gathered some extra luck from Formulino. Formulino is a cat that made itself known to the entire world of F1 as the cat of Imola.

The grey tabby cat became a regular garage visitor all over the track with a house near the track being its home. Formulino gained more security clearance than most can hope for. However, with the cancelation of the 2023 race, 2022 was the last time the lucky cat made an appearance.

According to reports on Twitter, Formulino has tragically passed away!

Despite its short-lived fandom, Formulino was well-loved and will is remembered by many F1 fans on this tragic day. Rest in peace! Although after these moments of mourning, Hamilton will still have some luck lying around as he received words of motivation from an unlikely recipient.

Many fans believed Hamilton was conjuring luck from his rumored love interest Shakira. One could corroborate it with Shakira’s appearance and Hamilton’s podiums. However, as the Hungarian GP made history in the sport’s broadcasting side of things, Hamilton’s lucky charm relayed a message for him.

For the first time in the sport’s history, the race was presented by children on Sky UK and Sky Deutschland. Among the many of Sky’s F1 Juniors one was Hamilton’s lucky charm.

A young boy named Zac, a young go-karting Brit got the opportunity to meet his idol Lewis Hamilton on the Thursday media day. His weekend got better as not only Hamilton secured his first pole since 2021, Zac got the opportunity to present the pole position award as well.

An ecstatic Hamilton even confessed, Oh, mate, you’ve become the lucky charm,to Zac. Replying with the same enthusiasm Zac said, You’re going to win!” to Hamilton.

Sadly, the Brit couldn’t compete with the “rocketship” of Max Verstappen. Regardless, Hamilton is gathering luck from wherever he can.
