The race in Saudi Arabia was one of the most dramatic races in recent memory. Think of the most controversial things that can happen in an F1 race; most of them were there in Jeddah, in abundance. And this made the race director, Michael Masi’s life, incredibly difficult for a few hours. Every decision Masi made was criticized and supported simultaneously. And recently, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton expressed which side he is on.

Speaking ahead of the race in Abu Dhabi, Hamilton applauded the stewards and Michael Masi for the ‘hard job’ they have. He said, “I think it’s such a hard job that the steward’s and Michael [Masi] have, given everything that is thrown at them.”

The seven-time world champion described that it’s better that everyone is aware of the rules. He added, “It’s great that it’s clear to everyone what the rules are, so that things that have happened in the past can be avoided.”

Hamilton hoped that the stewards won’t have to make as many decisions as they did in the previous race.

“Hopefully we have a great race and move forwards. I don’t want to see the stewards any more than they see me.”

Lewis Hamilton hopes for a clean race from ‘everyone’

The last thing either Hamilton or Verstappen would want is contact with each other that ruins their race and taints their year in the cruelest fashion. However, the narrative seems to be of the Dutchman being a ‘dirty’ driver.

But Hamilton expressed his faith in everyone, to race to win, and race fairly and rightly. He said, “I do believe that everyone here racing comes to win.”

“I would like to believe everyone wants to do it the right way – I don’t even let that creep into my mind.”

So far this season, the talking and mind games have progressively become fiercer. And while it is definitely a part of the sport, the results should always come from racing and racing only.
