Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, the two multiple F1 world champions, share a rather bitter past as teammates during their brief stint at McLaren. The duo would often come together on the track, which eventually led to dirty tactics, especially because both had equal opportunities to secure the championship.
While for Hamilton, it was about enjoying a dream start in F1 as a rookie, for Alonso, it was a matter of prestige. No driver would cherish losing out to a rookie teammate. In the end, neither won the title, as Kimi Raikkonen swooped down out of nowhere to steal the title away from the two McLaren drivers.
Over a decade later, despite often showing some respect for Hamilton, Alonso just couldn’t resist taking digs at the 7-time world champion. During an interview ahead of Christmas, Alonso had jokes stocked up about Hamilton.

What did Fernando Alonso say?
During the conversation, one of the interviewers pointed out the fact that the whole of Spain hated Hamilton following the 2007 season – “The whole of Spain didn’t like him.”
Alonso, however, chose to back his former teammate by reckoning he wasn’t bad, especially for a rookie. “During that time, he wasn’t too bad. He was a rookie,” the Spaniard replied.
🇪🇸 Cuidado con los comentarios, fans de Hamilton, es una broma 😅

But, then arrived the jokes, as Alonso added, “He got worse with years. Now I see him a bit more lost. There’s always bad and good guys. That’s part of the sport.”

Asked whether he is still in contact with Hamilton off the track, Alonso denied it. The Spaniard further opined that Hamilton has isolated himself a lot more than in the past.

“Not much. He’s not having any relationship with anyone. He isolated himself in the last few years. He’s in the world of fashion, wearing strange clothes,” Alonso concluded.
Overall, Hamilton has indeed shifted most of his off-track focus onto fashion in recent years, hardly ever staying in touch with pretty much any of the drivers. And now, amidst the Formula 1 retirement rumors, it wouldn’t be a surprise if fashion is where he is headed next to kindle a fresh start to his career.
