Lewis Hamilton is almost synonymous with the modern era of Formula 1. The 38-year-old made his F1 racing debut way back in 2007, and since then, there’s been no looking back for the 7x champion. During his time in the sport, he has arguably carved a niche out for himself that no other driver will ever be able to touch. That being said, unfortunately, the dominant streak that he was on since 2014 came to a bitter end at the end of 2021.

Since the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP, Hamilton has remained winless in F1. Needless to say, you’d be well within your rights to assume that the 38-year-old would’ve fallen out of the spotlight since. But the 2023 Australian Grand Prix was a testament to the fact that nothing could be farther away from the truth.

A fan in attendance during last weekend’s Australian GP dished out the details she witnessed with regard to all the drivers. She began by comparing 2x champion Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo to the might of the 7x champ.

“Lewis Hamilton, it was actually quite interesting because I thought, you know, like, you know people like Max [Verstappen] and Daniel Ricciardo and stuff,” said the fan in a video doing the rounds on Twitter.

She went on, “Like Daniel has such a big celebrity now, from Drive to Survive, but it still was nothing compared to that of Lewis Hamilton and I guess that allure of being a 7-time world champion and I guess one of the best sportsman in the world was still very captivating.”

He was quoted by the media after the race, as saying, “I’ve got to say a huge thank you to everyone here in Australia and Melbourne for having [us]. I’ve had the best week here, this week. And the weather has been amazing today and this track, this town continues to put on a great show.”

“So yeah, it’s very unlucky for George today and on our side we’ve got to look into… Our reliability has generally been really good, so that’s really unfortunate. But otherwise, to get those points is really amazing today. I definitely didn’t expect to be second. So I’m super grateful for it.”
