If you thought Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari announcement was premature, here’s him planning his MotoGP ventures. The 7-time F1 champion has always been an avid MotoGP fan. Surprisingly, he preferred to race bikes in his childhood over four-wheelers, which is his day job now. His father Anthony Hamilton forced him into four-wheeler racing, being absolutely against “dangerous” two-wheelers. Fortuitously, Hamilton can now return to his first love.

In April, F1 owners Liberty Media announced that it had acquired an 86% stake in MotoGP, bringing the two-wheeler and four-wheeler categories under one roof. Lewis Hamilton had then expressed how “epic” it would be if F1 and MotoGP races took place on the same weekend. “Maybe I could do a race in MotoGP and race a Formula 1 car on the same weekend,” he said with a smile, before crushing his pipe dream by terming this situation “impossible”.

Even though his MotoGP dream was crushed early in life, in 2019, he swapped vehicles with MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi and drove the Yamaha in Valencia. Though his father Anthony’s prophecy came true as he spun the bike once, it ended safely. Fast forward to today, Hamilton is now in talks with Gresini Racing, Ducati’s satellite team, to acquire the team from current boss Nadia Padovani.

Lewis Hamilton won’t be a first-time owner if his Gresini Racing acquisition goes through. The F1 Legend also co-owns the NFL’s Denver Broncos. The Briton has more than enough knowledge of running a team, and what can’t be said about his experience in motorsport? Interestingly, his move comes weeks after Marc Marquez announced his departure from Gresini to join the Ducati factory team in 2025, mirroring Hamilton’s Ferrari move. Moreover, the Mercedes driver had commended Marquez’s move. Who knew he was looking at it from an owner’s perspective?

Lewis Hamilton admires Marc Marquez’s “Incredible” move to Ducati

Marc Marquez is an 8-time MotoGP champion, a number that Lewis Hamilton is desperately chasing in F1. In 2019, Marquez had also challenged Hamilton to a ‘Champion versus Champion’ battle in an F1 car. Though the 7-time F1 champion agreed to “meet and ride together sometime”, the day hasn’t come. But their friendship is as strong as ever, as evident in Hamilton’s feelings about Marquez’s historic Ducati move for 2025.

“That’s awesome, he’s incredible,” Hamilton said, adding, “I love MotoGP, and really excited for the future of the sport as well. I think that they’ll be learning a lot from what has happened with Liberty and Formula 1 over the past years. And there’s a lot of growth that will happen. But the racing is amazing. And then to see Marquez on that Ducati, it’s gonna be cool. I mean, Ducati has always been such a cool bike.”

Though Hamilton won’t get to be Marc Marquez’s boss if he acquires Gresini, he will get the next best. Marc’s brother Alex Marquez has signed a 2-year contract extension with Gresini which’ll see him drive for them through 2026. It will be an absolute spectacle if and when Hamilton drives his team’s bike during the downtime. What do you make of Hamilton’s MotoGP aspirations? Share your thoughts below.
