In a recent development, Mick Schumacher has joined Mercedes-AMG F1 as their reserve driver. With this move, Schumacher will line up behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in the next F1 season. As the move was announced, veteran Mercedes driver Hamilton welcomed the young German with open arms.

Hamilton put up the image of Mick Schumacher in Mercedes attire in his story with a “Welcome to the team *fistbump*” caption before his 30.9 million followers. The smiling image of Schumacher was from Mercedes-AMG F1’s official Instagram account as the German agreed to join the German team.
Getting approved by the seven-time world champion and the poster boy of the team on the very first day is indeed a very good sign, because why not? Now all Mick Schumacher will have to do is wait for his turn to replace either Hamilton or Russell if needed, next season.

Schumacher Jr. found himself out of an F1 seat after Haas decided to replace him with his compatriot Nico Hulkenberg. The American team wanted to bank on experience as they decided to part ways with the German, despite having a better second year with the Kannapolis-based team.

Mercedes-AMG F1 team principal Toto Wolff has always been highly appreciative of Mick Schumacher. The Austrian executive was always open about wanting to look after Schumacher Jr. as he cited the German family’s ties to Mercedes.

Wolff, talking about Mick Schumacher joining the team, stated in a report published by F1, “Mick is a talented young driver and we’re delighted to have him join the team. He is a hard worker, has a calm and methodical approach, and is still hungry to learn and improve as a driver. These are all important qualities, and we’re excited for him to help us develop the W14.”
Schumacher Jr.’s father Michael Schumacher has been associated with Mercedes for quite a long time in his career. Apart from competing in Mercedes Race cars and DTM prior to becoming an F1 driver, the seven-time world champion also raced for the Silver Arrows from 2010 to 2012.
