Every driver, before making their debut in Formula 1, has dreamt of winning their first race. The 20 best drivers around the globe compete for the glory at each race weekend. However, only one could experience that winning feeling. In the storied history of F1, only 111 drivers have ever won the Grand Prix.

And the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, gave an emotional account of winning his first race. The Brit secured his maiden victory during his days with McLaren at the 2007 Candian Grand Prix.

In a video posted by the official YouTube account of Formula 1, the 11 drivers on the current grid who know what it feels like to win a race shared their experience and so did the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton.

“I think my whole life kinda flash before me know there’s to run at last lap. All those days of my dad was there when I was being bullied and my dad was there protecting me and the one that backed me up,” said Lewis Hamilton.

“The days where I was terrible and the days that I was cr*p, and the days when I had a crash and the days I failed at school and the days that people said you never be successful.”

“All these things came to mind where I have to get over that hump on my own mentally and just keep believing. And finally, I am coming across the line to equal the all-time greatest,” added the Briton.

Canadian Grand Prix 2007: Hamilton’s first victory

The Canadian Grand Prix 2007 was full of drama and incidents. The race witnessed a total of 10 retirements and the safety car was deployed four times during the race.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton started the race from the pole and went to secure his maiden victory in his debut season in Formula 1. The Briton had an impressive start to the season as he registered his first victory in only his sixth race start and also took the lead in the driver’s championship aged just 22.

Lewis Hamilton teamed up with the two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, at McLaren. In only his debut season, the Briton broke many records. Eventually, Hamilton finished second in the driver’s championship in 2007, losing out to Kimi Raikkonen by just one point.

Since then, Lewis Hamilton has won a joint record of seven world championship titles and holds the record for most wins, pole positions, and podium finishes in Formula 1.
