Lewis Hamilton has recently talked about Mercedes and their potential for the new season. The 2020 F1 champion thinks that they’re on the back foot at the moment. Hamilton also expressed that they might be behind McLaren in the pecking order.

In an interview as reported by Autosport, Lewis conveyed that they might not be taking pole next week. The seven-times world champion stated, “No, at the moment, I’m sure everyone can figure it out, we’re not the quickest. Ferrari look to be the quickest. Perhaps Red Bull, then us, or maybe McLaren.”

What made Lewis Hamilton make the comments?

Ferrari took everyone by surprise as their shiny new red F1-75 took to track in Barcelona. The Maranello-based team has performed brilliantly in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc ended up in the top half of the sheet and together completed more laps than any other constructor.

Talking about McLaren, the Papaya team left marks on everyone in Barcelona. Despite not having Daniel Ricciardo at the Bahrain testing, the Woking-based team fared well. Interestingly, team driver, Lando Norris, took a dig at Hamilton and revealed, “We’re in a decent place, we know we have a lot of work to do. A lot more work to do than Lewis says he has to do!” As of last year, McLaren finished in P4 behind Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari. The top two were far ahead of the rest.
