Sebastian Vettel gave up on his 5th title ambition to follow another passion. Lewis Hamilton has not yet given up on the dream to win his 8th title but was forced to give up on the magic plan that would’ve boosted his hopes. After the showcase at Azerbaijan GP, reality struck hard and burdened the Briton’s shoulder as he saw eye-to-eye with Toto Wolff, exchanging his optimism for realism. What did Lewis Hamilton say?

Mercedes’ performance was shaggy at the Azerbaijan GP. While there wasn’t much between the teams fighting for the second-best spot, Mercedes looked like the worst off in their fight with Aston Martin and Ferrari. Red Bull was way out of sight for the three finishing 20+ seconds up the road, ahead of the Charles Leclerc-Fernando Alonso battle for the podium. Lewis Hamilton earlier made comments suggesting how he expects Mercedes to build a rocket ship out of the new upgrades that are due for Emilia Romagna GP.

However, Toto Wolff implied that the upgrades would add constant and stable improvements rather than an Aston Martin-like magic turnaround. After the Azerbaijan GP and seeing Red Bull’s dominance, Lewis Hamilton has altered his expectations and aims at challenging Aston Martin at the Miami GP. The Briton explained that the Silver Arrows had a lot of porpoising issues last year, so this year would be better in those regards.

According to SkySports.com, Lewis Hamilton said, “Miami should hopefully be better pace-wise than here – last year we were bouncing there a lot so I think we’re in a much better place with our car this year. I hope we’re a little bit closer to the guys there. We might not be as close to the Red Bulls because they’re rapid but if we can fight the Astons that would be amazing.”
