No race on the Formula 1 calendar goes by without a noteworthy incident, and the Italian GP was no exception. The race in Monza witnessed two such incidents. First, was the debut of F2 champion Nyck de Vries and ended in a points finish. Second, the race ended behind a safety car, much to the dismay of Lewis Hamilton.

However, the weekend is past us and everyone is looking forward to the next Grand Prix in Singapore. One driver, in particular, will be more enthusiastic about the Singapore Grand Prix than most. The driver being Williams pilot Alex Albon.

The Williams man withdrew from the Italian GP on Saturday, handing De Vries his debut, because of health concerns. Albon suffered from a common condition in which the appendix becomes inflamed, called appendicitis. The condition requires care and treatment and a fairly common laparoscopic surgery.

However, the straightforward procedure took an unexpected turn, as revealed in a statement. The statement published on Williams’ official website stated, “Following surgery, Alex suffered with unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications which led to respiratory failure, a known but uncommon complication. He was re-intubated and transferred to intensive care for support.”

No matter the condition or the situation, the ICU always raises eyebrows and calls for concern. Luckily, Albon’s stint in the ICU wasn’t a long one as the statement revealed, “He made excellent progress overnight and was able to be removed from mechanical ventilation yesterday morning.”

Following the news of Albon’s surgery complications, the F1 fraternity has come out in unison to wish him a speedy recovery.

Lewis Hamilton shared his message for Albon through his Instagram story that read, “Get well soon, Alex. See you in Singapore.” 

Not just Hamilton, a host of entities associated with the sport, wished the Thai driver a speedy recovery.

FIA’s President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and various F1 teams wished a speedy recovery to Albon via Twitter.

 

From TV presenters to official Twitter pages of F1 circuits, all reacted to the news via Twitter.

The fans shared their reactions as well, showing concern for the Thai driver.

It’s reassuring to know Albon is not in recovery following the complication that put him in the ICU. According to Williams’ statement, he will be ready for Singapore. Let’s hope his recovery stays on course and he gets back on track soon as the world wishes Albon good luck.
