Lewis Hamilton decided to drive another season in F1 and with him, he brings back something from the initial turbo-Hybrid era. That something is his previous helmet designs from his youth years in motorsports. The helmet is yellow and reminiscent of his early days in F1.

Hamilton on his design
There had previously been talks of fans confusing the two Mercedes. So this time Lewis Hamilton took matters into his own hands to make sure that his fans can spot him on track. The 7 time world champion revealed that he spent hours working on the helmet and livery changes.
He said, “I spent hours at home after launch with my iPad in the app…and I sent those photos to Toto and Ola.” “I decided to bring some light to the color, to the helmet, with the neon.”
After hours of trial and error, he settled on bringing back the yellow from his younger years in the sport. The color is easy to spot and also linked to his racing history.
The yellow on the camera pods is generally used to identify the second driver in a team. However, for Hamilton, it is a mark of visibility for his fans when he is out on the circuit.

While rumors had it that Mercedes was sandbagging, however, the qualifying results from the season opener seem to squash those rumors. The team just isn’t the quickest car on track this season so far. Pole in Bahrain in the new era went to Ferrari and Charles Leclerc with Max Verstappen hot on his heels.
Lewis Hamilton could only manage 5th fastest with Russell down in 9th. The resurrection of Ferrari looks like the real deal now, after their near-flawless showing in qualifying.
