The coronavirus pandemic has affected many and Lewis Hamilton has already been a victim. The British world champion missed the 2020 Sakhir GP after contracting the virus. According to Hamilton, he has already contracted the virus twice, and he’s taking extra measures to not make it a third time.

The Mercedes wore a face mask throughout the Austrian GP and he even confessed a lot of his friends have contracted the virus yet again. In light of this, there is speculation Hamilton’s race engineer Peter Bonnington is one of them, as he missed the Austrian GP.
The Mercedes man did not confirm the reason behind Bono’s absence, but he gave a hint. He said, “Obviously I didn’t have Bono with me this weekend.”
He explained his reasons to use the protective face gear by saying, “I noticed a lot of people around me are getting sick and I definitely don’t want to get sick again. I’ve already experienced it twice. But just I notice a lot of people around me, a lot of my friends messaging me that they’ve got Covid and some of them are much worse than others.”

Hamilton missed the Shakir GP because of Covid, however, he can’t afford the same in the current season. Hamilton’s chances of winning the championship are slim, but he would not want to miss races, especially with the current momentum. Everyone is responsible for their own health, but Hamilton still urged people to start taking better care.

The world champion is an advocate of multiple things, and personal health is one of them. The Briton has felt the effects of Covid-19 on two occasions. Now Hamilton is voicing his opinion to increase awareness of the rise of the virus again.
“No one’s wearing a mask so I’m definitely wearing my mask,” he continued. “I urge people to do what they want to do, it’s your health at the end of the day. But I want to go home healthy. I want to be able to get up and train and do the things I love doing. I try, if I can, to keep the people that I love around me also safe when I can, when I’m around them.”
