During the 2021 Formula One season finale in Abu Dhabi, a lot of celebrities and sports personalities came to see the epic showdown between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. But very few people know that Star Wars Director George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, were there as well.
Hobson, who is currently the Chairwomen of Starbucks, is also a mentor to Hamilton. During the 2007 Monaco Grand Prix, Lucas took Hobson to see the race telling her how “a rookie Black driver had just broken into the top ranks for the first time in the sport’s 70-year history.”

Hobson and Lucas came to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, hoping to catch the Brit in the epic finale. But they didn’t inform him.
The race, however, turned into a disaster for Hamilton. From a healthy lead of 12 seconds at the top, a controversial judgment by Director Michael Massi led to Max overtaking Hamilton on the final lap to win the race and the championship.
As the race finished, we saw Lewis Hamilton shell-shocked by the events that happened on the final lap of the race. Hobson explained Hamilton kept asking, “What Happened?”
A huge chunk of Formula One Viewers expected Hamilton to have a counter-reaction to the whole thing. But Lewis Hamilton was the perfect gentleman as he walked out of the car and congratulated his counterpart Max, who was the World Champion.
Seeing this reaction of Hamilton to the whole incident, the $10 Billion Dollar man, George Lucas, told his wife Mellody, “Heroes are bigger than champions. Lewis just earned hero status.”

To console Hamilton Hobson said, “I just kept telling him things like. “We make no decisions in times of great anguish or pain. You have to just sit with this, and it’s going to be hard and uncomfortable. But there’s nothing to be done at this moment. So do nothing.”
In time, Hamilton was finally able to get over the Abu Dhabi debacle. He acknowledged Lucas’s comments, saying, “It’s one of the greatest compliments you could receive. It is very surreal to grow up watching Star Wars and have Yoda’s dad say positive things about you.”
