Lewis Hamilton is one of the finest drivers F1 has seen. To equal, a record set by the great Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher is an achievement in itself. With such an illustrious career, questions are often asked of Hamilton about his retirement plans. Earlier he said that he won’t be racing in his 40s. However, now it seems that something has changed his mind.

Hamilton has always been a man on a mission, whether it’s lifting up the title seven times or getting vocal about some social issues. The Mercedes driver runs a charity set up with Mercedes intended to aid diversity. Besides, mission 44 has been launched by the Brit devoted to improving representation in Motorsports.

Currently, 37-year-old Hamilton is one of the older generation’s drivers. Lewis Hamilton is frequently asked about his retirement plans. Earlier, he responded that he won’t be racing until he was completely exhausted, but now the British racer has changed his mind.
Hamilton revealed in a group media interview at Austin in the presence of Motorsports.com that he is planning to sign a new multiyear contract with the Silver Arrows (his existing deal will expire in 2023). The interest outside of F1 and constant support from Mercedes to keep him energized on the track were some major reasons for him to stay.

“I’m just in a happy place,” said Hamilton. “I’m a lot more grounded, I’ve got my home that I get to spend time in the UK when I come to see the team for example, my family come down. I have a lot better set-up just all round. And I feel like I can take the team to more championships.”
Keeping a player in a healthy environment is the responsibility of the team. Which certainly Mercedes is doing successfully. Toto Wolff believes Hamilton still has many years left in him.

Hamilton has always kept in mind the good balance between work and rest. The seven-time world champion has set some limitations around his work ethic. He doesn’t get himself overloaded. Keeping their body fit and mind in a healthy condition in the 40s is the biggest challenge for any athlete.
Some of the greats have bid adieu to their respective sports in the 40s. Serena Williams and Roger Federer to name a few. A wonderful friend of Hamilton, Tom Brady, is still competing and has managed to continue his career in the NFL at the age of 43.

Mercedes team principal uses Brady’s name as an inspiration for the Billion dollar man to stay in the sport and go ahead for the next few years, “For me, the best athlete in the world, Tom Brady, he’s on the field and being tackled and throwing the ball, and he’s 43 years old,” said Wolff.

He further added, “So as long as you continue to look after yourself, and develop your cognitive sensors, I think [Hamilton] has many more years in him. I’m pretty certain that’s going to be the case here in the team.”
