Lewis Hamilton landed a sweet new deal with Ferrari as he is set to replace Carlos Sainz after the 2024 season. The seat came with a huge signing bonus and a yearly contract of over 40 million euros. Now that’s a lot of money, and it’s fair if you think that this transfer was a financial decision. But truth be told, that is not the case.
Lewis Hamilton is one of the most iconic drivers to ever grace the sport. And with great achievements come great rewards. But Lewis has his eyes on the true prize, his 8th World Championship. After making it clear that Mercedes would not be able to help him achieve that goal, the switch to Ferrari was inevitable, especially considering the prancing horse was the team that Schumacher won most of his championships in.

Hamilton’s goal at Ferrari is to achieve his eighth world title. He aims to make history with the same team that legendary driver Michael Schumacher raced for, and who currently shares the record of seven world titles with Hamilton. As many fans started to believe it was for the money, the myth was debunked by Leo Turrini.
Leo is a seasoned reporter with ties to Ferrari, and that comes with immense knowledge about the sport. In the Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino, Leo Turrini wrote “Money. Money has nothing to do with it: Lewis is very rich, he was already overpaid where he was. In Ferrari, he will earn a little more but not a lot. He is a man worth fifty million euros per season, plus bonuses and sponsors.”
He further explains “But what pushed him towards Italy was the power of suggestion: winning the eighth title, record of records, with the car that belonged to Schumi and his mentor Lauda.” Lewis’ decision was made because he believed that Mercedes could not build him a machine that could beat Red Bull. Although Toto Wolff and the team were there for him through the years, Hamilton has mentioned doubts about their capability of building a champion car for him.

This ends the rumors of Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari for money. The raise that he received is not too much, according to Leo, but what does that mean? What could Lewis’ net worth be, to find the raise to be “not a lot?”
Lewis Hamilton’s Net Worth 2024
Hamilton’s current two-year deal with Mercedes is reportedly worth £50 million. Speculations suggest that his new deal with Ferrari is expected to match or exceed this amount, possibly reaching the level of current F1 champion Max Verstappen’s contract, which is £200 million over five years.

Last year, he signed a new contract with Mercedes and expressed having “unfinished business” with the team. Hamilton maintained faith in Mercedes’ ability to regain a competitive position in F1.
Lewis Hamilton is recognized as one of the most marketable drivers in Formula 1. His high-profile deals with renowned brands, such as Tommy Hilfiger, IWC, Bose, and many others, have contributed significantly to his income.
