Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to sarcastic comments. In fact, he uses it occasionally to take a jibe at Mercedes. One of those occasions was the Azerbaijan GP this season. After Formula 1 introduced the 2022 regulation changes, the Brackley outfit just hasn’t been the same. That’s to say Hamilton hasn’t competed for a race win since 2021. In Baku, it seemed like he’d finally gotten tired of the W14’s slow pace. He snapped, “Have you got more power to give me at some stage?”

While this sarcastic jibe had to do with Mercedes and its performance, the jibe he employed on Twitter recently had more to do with defending his social media habits. Apart from (kind of) achieving that, he also left the fan in question dumbstruck.

Lewis Hamilton did the one thing a fan never expected him to

Hamilton loves some time off of social media. That fact has been established time and again. But when he does come online, he ensures he makes a mark before disappearing again. Considering how celebrities use social media to interact with their fans (although there isn’t much interaction, just one-way communication), Hamilton did the unexpected. He actually replied to his fans on Twitter!

With a two-week break between the Italian and Singapore GP, F1 drivers had a weekend off. Whenever the seven-time champion gets time to relax and unwind, he usually stays off social media. Last weekend was no different. To announce his return, he tweeted, “Enjoyed the weekend off, how’s everyone?” A fan, rather disrespectfully, replied, “WHY TWEET IF U DONT REPLY LIL BRO” If there’s one thing Hamilton lives by in F1, it’s one of Ayrton Senna’s most famous quotes. “If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you’re no longer a racing driver.” It basically means a driver needs to take their chances whenever they get them.

The Brit decided to apply it here, too, and sarcastically replied, “Lil ???” Although what the fan said would’ve been accurate in most cases, Hamilton saw this as the perfect opportunity to prove them wrong. With the thread that followed, the seven-time champion can be pleased with his reply. As shocking as it may seem, Hamilton had to shut down another disrespectful comment recently. And it came from an F1 legend.

Lewis Hamiton took a dig at Sir Jackie Stewart

During the Italian GP weekend, Hamilton and Mercedes announced the seven-time champion’s contract extension. Following the announcement of the two-year deal, Hamilton expressed how he has unfinished business at Brackley. Seeing how he came oh-so-close to winning his eighth title, it was evident that’s what he’s aiming for. Listening to this, Sir Jackie Stewart gave his two cents. In an interview with Bild, he said, “Lewis no longer has that hunger [to win]. That [eighth title] also depends on Mercedes. It’s not impossible, but I still don’t think he’ll be able to do it.”

Responding to him, Hamilton said, “There are people that are very short-minded, who make the comments that they do, not knowing the work that’s being done in the background. One day, when I stop, I want to be encouraging the next generation of drivers, letting them know it’s okay to make mistakes. Being inspiring rather than shutting them down.” Whether Stewart meant to or not, he questioned Hamilton’s capabilities and demeaned him. Addressing that, Hamilton took a dig at Stewart by saying he would never undermine the next generation.
