Social media is a bridge that connects fans with their favorite personalities and gives them a peek into their life. However, if not used wisely, like everything else, it can be harmful. Lewis Hamilton is the most followed F1 driver by some margins. He has amassed 30.2M followers on Instagram and almost 8m on Twitter.

Recently, his rival Max Verstappen shared a similar concern. The Red Bull driver called out online trolls and condemned their actions. Furthermore, he called out the ‘keyboard warriors’ and hoped to find an algorithm that stops people from typing such stuff.  However, Hamilton has a rather hopeful belief of social media.

The Mercedes driver has been very active on social media in recent times. In a recent interview, he explained how it allowed people to express themselves in a different way.

Hamilton said, “We all have a platform, right? We all have social media and we all learn to use it. We all use them in different ways and for different reasons. I think what I would say I learned was how to be more vulnerable, how to share more with people. I notice that many people have the same experiences as me.” [Translated from Google]

He further added “In Formula 1, we are only 20, and people see us on television. We are very distant, and it is impossible to meet. But we’re only human. We go through the same human emotions and experiences as other people in public. And I think that’s the only thing that social media has allowed me to share.”
