The last race of last season has been quite controversial. The sport hasn’t seen anything like this before. Two drivers at identical points just before the last race is a very rare scene. At the end of 21 races, both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were at 369.5 points.
Hamilton was on his way to clinch his eighth world title. The Briton was set to break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven World championships. However, things change drastically as Michael Masi, the race director, has made a major decision. Masi called to unlap the lapped cars and take off the safety car. In the end, Lewis’s dream to have eight world titles remained untouched.
The last race started with Hamilton leading the entire race. Until Nicholas Latifi crashed against the barrier and then the safety car came out. The end of the safety car saw Verstappen right behind Hamilton with fresher tires. In the end, Max overtook Lewis to take home his maiden world championship.
