Sir Lewis Hamilton, apart from being a seven-time world champion, is a humanitarian. The Mercedes man is an activist and a supporter of all issues that align with his values and ideals. The Briton never shies away from expressing his views whenever he feels strongly about an issue.

However, this practice of using one’s platform and influence to bring attention to important issues is not very common. And this is exactly what separates Hamilton from others. As summed up by Natalie Pinkham ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, this trait about Hamilton makes him unique.

In this interview, Pinkham summed up Sir Hamilton’s influence and how he uses his platform to do good in the world. In the words of the British journalist, “I feel that what separates a good sportsman from a great icon of the sport is what they do with their platform. And actually what Lewis has done has trailblazed, is been seismic in our sport and he’s made a massive difference. And if you can’t do that with that platform, then you’re not using your popularity and your fan base very well.”

On and off-track, there’re acts of kindness and activism which is exactly what makes the Mercedes world champion so special. And according to the FIA President, stands taken by drivers like Hamilton and Vettel equate to “imposing their beliefs”. The president made such a statement in an interview during the weekend in Monaco. This caused a lot of outrage among the fans as they expressed their opinion on Twitter regarding his statement.

However, the president recently made a statement on his social media saying, “As a driver, I have always believed in sport as a catalyst of progress in society. That is why promoting sustainability, diversity and inclusion is a key priority of my mandate. In the same way, I value the commitment of all drivers and champions for a better future.
